I think the whole idea of wedding hand fan was greatly inspired by the colourful tail feathers of the most beautiful bird- "the peacock"...
Although mostly used by the bride on her traditional wedding day, the hand fan has been observed to do well on white weddings, thereby serving as an alternative to the bouquet.. Nevertheless, I've seen brides make do with both at the same time; their chief bridesmaid assisting them.
